About Ohio Adventist Christian Fellowship

Here’s a surprising fact: Did you know that 65% of Seventh-day Adventist young people attend secular colleges or universities? Studying at a secular college or university presents challenges to a student’s faith. Being at college may be his or her first time making decisions of their own, without mom and dad there to guide them. University studies are stressful, and social pressures are strong. The Ohio Conference has long hoped to minister to students—Seventh-day Adventists and others—on secular campuses. In September, we started a pilot program to place chaplains at three of our state’s universities: Ohio University in Athens, The Ohio State University in Columbus, and Wright State University in Dayton. Here are some of their experiences.

Collegiate Sabbath

This past Saturday our Ohio University and Hocking College students helped to lead out in our first collegiate Sabbath at the Athens Adventist church. It was wonderful to see our students up front leading our congregation in worship. We had some interesting moments, like busting a microphone when dropping it on the ground and having to do a last minute children story because more children showed up to church than ever before. Most of these glitches, however, were because I was a little unorganized and over excited about our first collegiate Sabbath. In spite of my shortcomings God still used our students in a powerful way and our church family was more than gracious. In addition, our church family expressed the tremendous blessing they received from the Holy Spirit and they are excited about having collegiate Sabbath once a month
